  • Charlotte Swim Academy: Specializes in weekly semi-private and private lessons, but also offers a parents-and-tots class for children under 2 and a stroke technique class for children with a firm foundation of rotary breathing. During the summer, the academy offers concentrated sessions of four lessons per week. Cost for a ten-week session: $180 for 15-minute private lessons, $240 for 20-minute ones and $360 for 30-minute ones.   • Little Otter Swim School: Provides year-round small group instruction as well as parent-child classes. Classes meet once a week for 30 minutes. The student-teacher ratio for parent-child classes is 6 parents and babies to 1 teacher. Older children are in classes of 3 or 4 children to 1 teacher.   • Mecklenburg Aquatic Club: Teaches students with the SwimAmerica program, which uses 10 learning stations with specific skill sets that students progress through. Focus is on proper stroke technique. Offers 30- or 40-minute classes two times a week at Charlotte Latin School in South Charlotte or the MAC facility in Concord. Cost: About $112 for ten, 30-minute classes, $130 for ten, 40-minute classes. www.justswimmac.org
  • Charlotte Aquatics: An authorized provider for the American Red Cross, Charlotte Aquatics offers weekly, 30-minute group lessons for children over age 2 and a half, as well as parent-child classes for younger kids. Five children or less per class. Sessions last eight weeks and cost $120.   • Mecklenburg Park And Recreation: From parent-child classes for the youngest babies to experienced swimmers, the Aquatics Division of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department offers dozens of programs and classes to fit your needs. www.parkandrec.com
  • Jewish Community Center: Group swimming classes are offered Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday, Fridays and Sunday mornings. Classes last 45 minutes.   • Greenwald Guppies Private Swim Lessons: Rachel Knox offers private lessons to children ages 2 and up at the pool of your choice. She has been teaching swimming for more than 15 years. Prefers to offer 30-minute lessons every day (Monday through Friday) because consistency is important. Depending on the age of the child, lessons last from one week up to 5 or 6 weeks. South Charlotte area preferred. Cost: $35 for each 30-minute private lesson or $175 per week. 704-544-3254.
