Fun At The Mall
Here are some fun things to do with the kids at Charlotte area malls. Got other ideas? E-mail us at news@momscharlotte.com and we’ll add them.
Northlake Mall. At this mall’s Warner Bros. Looney Tunes Play Area (across from Dick’s Sporting Goods on the lower level), kids can climb, crawl and jump on their favorite Looney Tunes characters. The mall also has a kids’ activity area in the middle of its food court. They’ll have fun with distorted mirrors, tic-tac-toe and tabletop sand art while you relax with a friend at a nearby table. www.shopnorthlake.com
Carolina Place Mall. The jungle-gym themed play area, on the lower level near Sears, features a maze of tunnels and crawl spaces, with plenty of seating for parents. The Barnes & Noble has children’s storytimes on Monday and Saturday mornings at 10. And kids can pay by the hour to play the newest video game releases on any console at Game Frog. www.carolinaplace.com
SouthPark Mall. Have some upscale shopping to do while you have the kids? Despite the lack of a formal play area, there are actually plenty of kid-friendly spots at SouthPark. Pottery Barn Kids has a storytime every Tuesday at 10 a.m., occasional kids’ concerts and a play area with a play kitchen, blocks, legos and more. Joseph-Beth Booksellers has a kids’ concert every Friday at 11:15 a.m., plus scheduled storytimes and its own play area with a train table, books, stuffed animals and more. And it’s always fun to watch girls getting their “princess” makeovers at Libby Lu near the food court. www.simon.com
Concord Mills Mall. Younter kids love climbing in the kids’ play area, which has a hospital theme. Older kids can try the rock-climbing wall at Sun & Ski SportsWorld. And kids of all ages will enjoy watching employees make candy apples and other treats at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and seeing the fish in the 23,000-gallon aquarium at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. If you want to spend a little money, you can’t beat a ride on the Merry-Go-Round in the food court or at the NASCAR Speedpark. www.concordmills.com
